Unter der Generalisierten Sozialphobie versteht man Leistungs- und Interaktionsängste mit krankhaftem Charakter, d.h. Betroffene haben soziale Ängste in Bezug auf alle Bereiche des täglichen Lebens: Gespräche mit Autoritätspersonen sind ebenso angstbesetzt wie Gespräche mit Gleichaltrigen, Personen des anderen Geschlechts, Fremden oder per Telefon.
Einladungen zu Festen und Feiern werden ungern angenommen oder unter einem Vorwand abgesagt.
